Olympic lifting is a major part of what we do here and our overall mission at CrossFit Training Valley. Both Training Valley owners are very passionate about Olympic lifting and have made it an integral part of the programming and coaching here at the gym. As part of that we have started Training Valley Barbell Club for all lifters in the Burlington, Greensboro, and Mebane area. This is a barbell club dedicated to helping athletes develop proper technique and form in the Olympic lifts and get them ready for success in Olympic lifting competitions, athletics, or CrossFit!
Classes: Training Valley Barbell club meets 3 times a week for an hour and a half training session. Times are Tuesday and Thursday from 5pm-6:30pm and Saturday from 11am-12:30pm. To insure proper warm-up, a solid program, and maximal coaching time classes are lengthened by 30 minutes to 1.5 hours total.
Programing: Programming for athletes looking to compete will be based on athletes’ individual needs and skill level (as well as time of year). However, for those just getting started programming will be a fundamental weightlifting cycle focusing on developing technique and strength. For athletes looking to improve in a specific sport, programing will be based on getting them ready for the demands of that sport and will be based on increasing speed, power, and explosivness.
Facility: Located in Burlington NC, inside CrossFit Training Valley (at 13,000sq ft it’s one of the largest CrossFit gym facilities in North Carolina) Training Valley Barbell Club has access to elite and professional Olympic weightlifting. We use Olympic lifting bearing bars and completion kilo bumper plates as well as standard high-density rubber bumper plates. We have a full array of lifting platforms, jerk blocks, and Olympic lifting accessories to ensure you get the highest quality of training!
Drop-ins: For CrossFit Training Valley members looking for extra barbell work, you have the chance to drop-in to class for extra help. Class is an hour and a half and will cost $15. Programming will be based on weaknesses you’re trying to address and will be mostly skill work unless strength is the main issue. For non CrossFit Training Valley members drop-ins will be $20 and you must schedule this one day in advance by emailing us through the contact form on the website.
Coaching: All our coaches are very well versed in the Olympic lifts, have various barbell certifications, and are experienced lifters themselves. Training Valley Barbell Club head coach is Aria Bremner (Below you’ll find her full list of credentials!) and both CrossFit Training Valley Owners, Daniel and Ryan, coach Training Valley Barbell classes and athletes. All our coaches are personally passionate about Olympic lifting and train in these lifts daily! We love working with athletes and helping them succeed and reach their goals! Coaching will be focused on technique and proper form, but will also involve encouraging athletes, building their confidence, and fostering a positive environment that maximizes and ensures success!
Coach Aria Bremner: USAW Certified Weightlifting Coach, CF L1 Certified, American Open Competitor (6th in 2015), USAW Nationals Competitor, Training under Dan Rose (experienced as a lifter and coach in the sport of weightlifting).
Competition: A major aspect of Training Valley Barbell Club is competing in local, state, and National weightlifting completions. This is optional for athletes but is highly encouraged because of its value for goal setting and motivation during training. We also encourage athletes to be involved in athletics outside of Olympic lifting because of the amazing athleticism that Olympic lifting develops.

Whether it is a barbell, a football, another opponent, or the athlete’s own body. A close look at any professional athlete or sports program will reveal Olympic lifting in their training. UFC, NFL, MLB, NHL, NBA, MLS, and countless other professional athletes all incorporate Olympic lifting into their training to maximize their potential for generating power, speed, and explosiveness.
